The Ministry of Buddhism, Religious and Cultural Affairs has issued a statement saying that a "Welcome to Our Mosque" reconciliation program has been organized in conjunction with the 42nd National Milad-un-Nabi State Festival. The statement states that under the program, the other religious community will have the opportunity to see the internal culture, history and religious observances of a Muslim mosque.
Minister of Tourism and Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath, who made a Facebook post in this regard, requested everyone to join hands in building a bridge of reconciliation to build a united Sri Lanka by promoting mutual understanding, respect and goodwill.
The note further states that the Periyamulla Jumma Masjid and the Negombo Mosque will be open to all from 9.30 am on August 24 under the "Welcome to Our Mosque" reconciliation program.
In addition, a program to develop Islamic religious places is being implemented in conjunction with the 42nd National Milad-un-Nabi State Festival. Under this, the government has provided a provision of Rs. 10 million for the development of Muslim mosques in the Gampaha district alone, the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs says.
