Mahara Chief Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama today issued a warrant for the arrest of Wasantha Mudalige, the former convener of the Inter-University Students' Federation.

The warrant was issued for his failure to appear in court in connection with an incident in which he allegedly held a protest in front of the University of Kelaniya and caused public distress.

D. M. Chamika Asela, J. A. Jude Krishanthi, W. M. Yashod Lakshan, W. K. Sameera Sampath, M. M. Rasika Dilhara, S. A. Krishantha Subhasinghe, Janith Janajaya, Sanjaya Hettimulla and former convener of the Inter-University Students' Federation Wasantha Mudalige have been named as respondents in this case.

The Kiribathgoda Police have filed charges against them in court for being members of an illegal assembly, rioting against the government, remaining at the place of an illegal assembly despite being notified by a lawful authority to disperse, causing unlawful obstruction, starting an illegal assembly without informing 06 hours in advance that a parade or procession will be held, and blocking the Colombo-Kandy main road.

The case was adjourned until June 23rd.
