The National Transport Commission has received its approval for the revision of bus fares to be carried out in July as per the National Transport Policy. Accordingly, the SLTB and private bus fares will be increased with effect from tomorrow (06).

With the new fare increase, a bus fare is set to exceed the Rs. 5000 mark for the first time in the history of Sri Lankan transport. Accordingly, after this fare revision, the maximum long-distance super luxury bus fare, which was Rs. 4405 so far, is set to increase to Rs. 5571.

According to the new revision, the minimum bus fare has been increased by Rs. 4 from Rs. 30 to Rs. 34. In addition, the second fare step, which was Rs. 39, has been increased to Rs. 44, and the third fare step, which was Rs. 50, has been increased to Rs. 56.

This revision has been made under 4 categories of fare increase.

Ordinary bus services (less than 100 km): Fare increased by 12%

Ordinary bus services (more than 100 km): Fare increased by 20%

Luxury services (less than 100 km): Existing fare increased by 12%

Luxury services (more than 100 km): Existing fare increased by 15%

The National Transport Commission further emphasizes that this fare increase applies to both the SLTB and the private sectors.
