On the evening of January 29, 2025, the glittering Level 23 of Cinnamon Life, City of Dreams, played host to an extraordinary gathering of art enthusiasts, connoisseurs, hoteliers, socialites, influencers, and media representatives. The occasion? The unveiling of Chathurika Jayani’s latest collection, Dream Paradise Odyssey, as part of Cinnamon Life’s celebrated Artist Spotlight Series. The event was a testament to the property’s unwavering commitment to promoting Sri Lankan art and fostering the growth of the country’s creative industry.

The Artist Spotlight Series is a ground-breaking initiative that highlights the outstanding talents of over 687 artists whose works adorn the walls and spaces of Cinnamon Life. This rotating exhibition, which changes every three months, not only enhances the aesthetic experience for guests but also provides a platform for Sri Lankan artists to showcase their work on a global stage. Chathurika Jayani, one of Sri Lanka’s most compelling contemporary artists, was the star of the evening, with her deeply personal and evocative collection taking centre stage.
A Feminist Voice in Contemporary Sri Lankan Art
Chathurika is no stranger to the art world. A graduate of the University of Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo, she has carved a niche for herself with her innovative use of materials and exploration of themes such as urbanisation, industrialisation, and the multifaceted roles of women. Her work has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions across Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, earning her a reputation as one of the region’s most dynamic contemporary artists.
Her solo exhibitions, including Dreamscape at Saskia Fernando Gallery (2022) and The Secret Vows at Art Space and Paradise Road Gallery (2018 and 2019), have been celebrated for their bold narratives and striking visual language. At Cinnamon Life, Chathurika’s artistry is already well-represented, with her Dream Paradise series commissioned for the suite rooms and a large-scale installation in the L24 lobby, inspired by the corrugated tiling commonly found in Sri Lankan architecture.

The Dream Paradise Odyssey Collection
The Dream Paradise Odyssey collection is a deeply personal chronicle of Chathurika’s journey as a wife, mother, teacher, and artist. The works are a fusion of her earlier Secret Vows and Dreamscape series, evolving to incorporate new elements that reflect her sources of inspiration and aspiration. Each piece is a window into the fragmented cognitive space required by women juggling multiple roles, capturing the optimism, hopes, and prayers that define their lives.
Chathurika’s signature mixed-media practice shines through in this collection. Using unconventional materials such as corrugated boards, handmade paper, and yarn, she crafts intricate textures and bold colours that add depth to her exploration of Sri Lanka’s cultural and natural landscapes. Her use of needles and gas torch burners to manipulate these materials creates a unique visual language that is both evocative and thought-provoking.
The collection also includes two flags that serve as powerful symbols of her personal and artistic evolution. These works, rooted in the Secret Vows series, are a testament to her ability to weave together imagination, hope, devotion, and heritage into a narrative that resonates with young women globally.

Cinnamon Life: A Hub for Art and Culture
The Dream Paradise Odyssey exhibition is a perfect reflection of Cinnamon Life’s vision to celebrate and promote Sri Lanka’s vibrant culture, art, and heritage. By commissioning this collection, Cinnamon Life not only enhances the experience of its guests but also creates a platform for Sri Lankan talent to shine on a global stage.

The event also highlighted Cinnamon Life’s broader commitment to establishing itself as a hub for arts and culture. The Artist Spotlight Series will continue to rotate every three months, showcasing the works of other talented artists commissioned for the property. Upcoming exhibitions include the World Press Photo Exhibition from 8th to 10th February and the prestigious KALA 2025 from 12th to 22nd February, for which Cinnamon Life is the official venue partner.
A Night to Remember
The evening was not just an exhibition but a celebration of art, culture, and the human spirit. Guests had the unique opportunity to interact with Chathurika, delving into her inspirations, creative process, and the stories behind each artwork. Her presence added a personal touch to the event, making it an unforgettable experience for all in attendance.
As the night drew to a close, it was clear that Dream Paradise Odyssey was more than just a collection of artworks—it was a journey through the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of a remarkable artist and the countless women she represents. Cinnamon Life, with its Artist Spotlight Series, continues to champion Sri Lankan art, ensuring that the island’s creative voices are heard far and wide.
In a world where art often serves as a mirror to society, Chathurika Jayani’s Dream Paradise Odyssey is a reflection of resilience, hope, and the enduring power of creativity. And at Cinnamon Life, this reflection shines brighter than ever.
