The number of dengue deaths in the country has increased to 45, according to a statement issued by the National Dengue Control Unit.
According to the statement, the number of dengue patients reported across the country so far in 2026 is 65,034.
In the first 8 days of July alone, 9,654 patients have been reported, and about 1,300 patients were reported yesterday (08) alone, said Dr. Kapila Kannangara, Acting Director of the Dengue Control Unit.
The National Dengue Control Unit has stated in its report that 13,332 patients have been identified from the Gampaha district, 13,150 patients from the Colombo district, 4,600 patients from the Matara district and 4,354 patients from the Kalutara district this year.
It is also reported that several major hospitals have reached their maximum capacity.
