Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (05) ordered the release of former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena on bail.

The court ordered his release on a cash bail of Rs. 500,000 and three sureties of Rs. 1 million each, and imposed a travel ban on him.

The case was taken up on the 28th, and the Bribery Commission opposed the bail application made by President's Counsel Rienzi Arkusalarathna, who appeared for suspect Kapila Chandrasena. The Magistrate issued this order this morning after considering the arguments presented by both parties at length.

The Bribery Commission’s investigation officers, who briefed the court on the progress of the investigation, said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Ministers Piyankara Jayaratne and Willie Gamage have been summoned before the Bribery Commission in connection with this investigation. The case was set to be heard again on July 14.
