Tissamaharama Magistrate Tharindu Sameera Silva ordered the release of Somipala Ratnayake, the head priest of Ruhunu Kataragama Mahadevala, who was arrested by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) on two sureties of Rs 500,000 each.
It is reported that the chief custodian of the Kataragama temple, who is the main suspect in the case of the disappearance of the 38-pound gold plate offered to the Kataragama temple by the wife of an underworld leader, Angoda Lokka. He was brought to court after being arrested early yesterday morning.
Mr. Chuti Kapu, the storekeeper of Kataragama temple, who has been instructed by the Attorney General to be arrested in connection with the incident, was still missing. He is the grandson of Chief Kapu Dhurandara Somipala Ratnayake.
