It is revealed that two heads of the Ministry of Health have pressured the officials of the Medical Supply Unit to accept a stock of ten thousand contact lenses that do not meet the standard conditions.

There is a shortage of contact lenses in hospitals all over the island and the Ministry of Health has now accepted that. For that, the Medical Supply Unit has received a stock of ten thousand contact lenses and has refused to accept them which are not of the prescribed specifications.

The company that has imported the stock of contact lenses is also a registered company of the National Drug Regulatory Authority. When the officials of the medical supply unit informed the health chiefs about this, they said to accept this stock.

Regarding this, the Deputy Director General of the Medical Supply Unit, Dr. G. Wijesuriya in a query , he said that none of the hospitals in the island have contact lenses. Therefore, although a stock of contact lenses has been received, the officials of the medical supply unit have refused to accept the stock stating that they are not up to the required standards.

The Deputy Director General said that an investigation has been started.
