It is reported that the attempt of the leader of the New Democratic Front, Ranil Wickramasinghe, to nominate two of his close associates for the two National List MP positions has caused a serious division within the party.
Party Secretary Sharmila Perera was instructed to send the names of those two to the Election Commission, but she did not agree. National List candidate Ravi Karunanayake has also intervened in this situation. Accordingly, he has applied to nominate himself for the National Lasistu Member of Parliament.
Accordingly, Sharmila Perera, the secretary of that party, has written to the Election Commission to appoint Ravi Karunanayake for one of the two national list seats held by her party. It is reported that the request has been accepted by the Election Commission.
However, party leader Ranil Wickramasinghe did not agree with this decision.
